Homemade Chopped Tomatoes

There was a time in my life where I couldn’t live without canned tomatoes but I have learned so much over the years and with the growing concerns over BPA in canned products, I try my best to avoid them. Making your own chopped tomatoes is not difficult, follow this quick & simple guide for perfect chopped tomatoes in no time!

WHAT YOU WILL NEED:

Vine tomatoes

Sea salt

Herbs of choice – I used basil

METHOD:

  • Wash tomatoes
  • Core tomatoes
  • Put tomatoes in boiled water, leave for 1 minute
  • Drop tomatoes in ice or very cold water, leave for 1 minute
  • Once tomatoes are cool, peel skins off
  • Chop tomatoes
  • Put tomatoes in a pan, add salt and any other seasoning
  • Simmer for 5 minutes
  • Store in glass jar

You can store your chopped tomatoes in the fridge and they can also be frozen to last longer using a freezer safe container.
